Teachers accused of raping students face a judge

Published: Updated:

A teacher and a teacher?s aide were in court Tuesday to face rape charges concerning two 16-year-old students, one of whom is from Westchester.

According to police, a sexual tryst between the women and the teens occurred over Memorial Day weekend at the New Windsor home of teacher?s aide Maria Zurita. The alleged incident surfaced after officials from McQuade Children?s Services, a residence and school for children with special needs, notified police the two teens were missing. Investigators also said they found letters written by teacher Rebecca Becker to the teens indicating a sexual relationship.

Both Becker and Zurita are 28 years old and married. An internal investigation by the school helped police learn of the suspected sexual relationship. The women have both been fired from the school.
