Police probe pattern in Nyack home invasions

Published: Updated:

Police are investigating a possible pattern after three home invasions in Nyack.

Orangetown Police Lieutenant John McAndrew says someone is targeting women in the village of Nyack and breaking into their apartments at night. The latest incident occurred Sunday around 5 a.m., when police say a suspect used a fire escape to gain entry to a home. Investigators say the individual made his way into the bedroom, where a 19-year-old woman and her mother were sleeping. Police say he frightened the teen, but neither of the women were hurt.

Police say another victim was not as fortunate in a separate home invasion that took place June 6. During that incident, the suspect entered through an open window and punched a woman in the face several times. Police say the suspect took off after the victim screamed.

Lt. McAndrew says although the patterns in each incident are similar, detectives are still trying to figure out if the same suspect is involved in each case.
