Boy crossing in front of school bus struck by SUV

A 6-year-old boy crossing in front of a school bus was seriously injured Wednesday when he was struck by an SUV in Chestnut Ridge.

The boy was being dropped off at the Chestnut Ridge Middle School to board a bus to a private school in New Jersey. According to police, the boy ran out of the bus to get something he forgot from his parents? car. Police say he was then hit by an SUV speeding past the bus.

Police say the boy was stuck under the tires of the SUV. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center with injuries to his torso and legs.

School officials say the bus had its lights on and a stop sign out when the accident occurred. Ramapo police are investigating the incident and say the driver of the SUV may be charged.
