Some claim hip-hop song gives New City a bad rap

Published: Updated:

A hip-hop song posted on the Web site YouTube is giving New City a bad rap, according to some residents.

Nyack resident Stephen Redmond, also known as the rap artist Lucky Me, posted a homemade music video on the site in March. The song ?I Love New City? talks about rich kids buying cocaine, exhibiting loose behavior and just hanging out. Since the clip?s posting, the video has been viewed more than 10,000 times.

Redmond shot the music video all over New City. He said his biggest fan base is in that area, so he thought it would be appropriate to write a song about New City residents and what he claims really goes on in the neighborhood.

While some parents said the lyrics are an eye openers, others believe the rapper is just trying to get attention. Redmond?s response to non-believers is to ask their kids about the song?s meaning.
