Massive effort to clean Mamaroneck under way

Published: Updated:

Habitat for Humanity and others worked to clean the waterlogged Mamaroneck River Saturday.

Habitat for Humanity volunteers were aided by Americorps who came to the area from Maryland.

One of the possible causes for the flooding is debris in the river. The volunteers removed garbage such as tires and chains from the waterway. The volunteers are also working to restore damaged homes.

Residents say they still fear rainfall will cause more flooding.

Habitat for Humanity says they are planning a massive rehabilitation effort in Westchester County. County Executive Andy Spano is leading a flood summit on June 20 at the Westchester County Center.
