We are just over a week away from tax day which means it's prime time for tax scams. State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is issuing some tips.

Among them, the IRS will never demand payment by phone. Instead you'll receive a legitimate notice in writing. You should never give out personal information like social security or bank account numbers over the phone.

Legitimate government organizations will never threaten deportation or arrest for failure to pay a debt. Also, you should never sign a blank tax return. and if you use a tax preparer, use only established and recognizable companies.
