Some runners are braving the cold in the name of education.
On Sunday morning more than 1-hundred runners laced up for the first ever "I Love Public Education 5-K Run/Walk" in Otsiningo Park.

The event was co-hosted by the Chenango Valley Teacher's Association and the Vestal Coal House.

Participants say that even though the chilly conditions made the race harder, spreading their message made it all worth it.

President of Chenango Valley's Teacher's Association Sue Gibson said,"We really believe in this we really believe in this for our kids. And I think there are parents here there are community members there are teachers, there are administrators from our school. And we all have that same goal we want whats best for our kids."

Harpursville Music Teacher Becky Stocum said, "There is a lot of criticism going on but us teachers are out there doing our best everyday loving those kids doing what we can for them. And we just hope that the public knows that and they'll support us fully."

The push for equality in all public education has been an ongoing topic as teachers are hoping for more funding for public schools but Governor Cuomo has yet to pass a state budget. The state budget is due April 1st.
