Locals Walk Oakdale Mall for Multiple Sclerosis

Published:
Several people take on the Oakdale mall but this time they're not shopping.

About 100 walkers came out for the Mission Steps Walk to support Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Day.

The walk raises money for local funds to help people with MS in Central and Upstate New York.

The goal: sponsor yourself and ask friends and family to support your walk with a donation!

Program Direct of MS Resources Tammy Ballard said, "We're a not-for-profit company so all of our funds are raised through events like this. We have all of our donors and that's what we depend on to make all the difference for our clients."

Participant Betty Calkins, who suffers from MS, said, "90% of the money goes towards this area. And only 10% goes towards the business end of it. And that is phenomenal."

Various gift certificates were awarded to the highest top individual fund-raisers.

This year's goal is to raise $20,000 toward MS.
