Binghamton Mayor Rich David Proposes Assistance Plan for Residents with Frozen Pipes

Binghamton Mayor Rich David announces an assistance plan for residents with frozen pipes.

Due to sub-zero temperatures causing pipes to freeze, approximately 160 homes in the city of Binghamton were without water services this winter.

Sunday, the mayor addressed the city's proposed plan to prevent repeat freezes. The mayor advises residents to leave at least one faucet running at all times in which the city will not charge for the extra usage.
The city's plan is to compare this year's water charges to the same billing period last year and waive any charges above the 2014 amount.
But David says as of now there's still work to be done...

Binghamton Mayor Rich David said, "We are still in the process of working to either jet or dig to restore service across the city in addition to using hoses house to house. We are working to reduce the number it is currently in the 70s right now in regards to properties that are impacted the warmer weather that has existed over the course of the past few days has helped us but while we had a full court press trying to restore the water service to those residents impacted we also want to try to provide financial relief. And that's what the purpose of this plan is."

Mayor David is requesting legislation to consider the water bill relief plan Monday.
