Locals Get Children's Car Seats Certified

The Broome County Health Department is collaborating with the Broome County Sheriff's office to make sure your child's car seat is safe.
Parents could head over to the Chenango Bridge fire company between 10 am and 3 p.m. Saturday to get their children's car seats inspected by a certified technician.
According to the Broome County Health Department, car crashes are the leading cause of death in children.
They also say correctly used car seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent.
Child Passanger Safety Instructor Robin Mastrangelo said, "Schedule an inspection. We hold those up at the Sheriff's Department monthly. Even if it's in right, I'd rather have someone check it to know. It's precious cargo they're carrying."
Technicians checked for the seat's recall status, expiration date and proper installation. The free inspections were first come first serve and also included educational materials on safety seats. A free replacement seat was also given if the original seat was deemed unfit for the child.
