Warriors embracing underdog role

Published:
The Chenango Valley Warriors may be an unlikely Section IV Champion given their path to the title. As the number four seed, they needed a three point barn burner against top seed Norwich in the Section Semi-finals and followed that up with a fourth quarter comeback and 14 point win over 2-seed Whitney Point. Heading into the state playoffs, they're once again regarded as the underdog, but that's okay by them.

"We talked in the beginning of the season, it's not where we're at [sic], it's where we're going to be," said Head Coach Bob Zanot. "At one point in the season we were 9-6 and we had lost 3 straight games in the middle, around Christmas time. The kids picked it up, and we've won seven straight now, so we're playing our best basketball right now."

"We came out during Norwich and we thought we we re going to lose it, so did our coach," said CV Guard Caleb Hertzog. "But, we came out, we played out hardest and we showed them what we got and we made it. It's a great feeling."

CV plays Section III's Westhill in Regionals on Saturday at 3:00 at Colgate University.
