Freezing Temperatures Cause Water Issues in Binghamton

Published:
A number of homes in Binghamton are without water service as this long stretch of cold weather has created an unprecedented depth of frost below ground.

That frost has frozen a number of pipes.

Three homes on St. Clair Avenue in Binghamton's south side are without water and have been for about a week because of a frozen line.

A spokesperson for the mayor's office says crews have been working non stop to fix the issue, and the city has brought in a private contractor to help with the digging.

He says frozen pipes have affected several areas of the city.

Ultimately temperatures, specifically those at night, will determine how quickly service can be restored.

With temperatures in Thursday night's forecast to be below zero that is not good news.

The mayor was expected to visit homes on St. Clair Avenue Thursday evening.
