Phelps Mansion Celebrates Chinese New Year

Published:
The Phelps Mansion is celebrating the year of the sheep all in honor of the Chinese New Year.
Sunday, the mansion hosted several performances for the celebration including ones from a Chinese opera singer, a bamboo flute player.

And faculty members from Binghamton University even showed up to sing with the Chinese Opera singers.
It was all just $10 for to catch the artistic performances.

Phelps Mansion House Manager Joe Schuerch said, "It's a great opportunity for us to bring people in who wouldn't have otherwise come in so they can see what the house is all about and then learn something about a different culture."

The holiday honors household ancestors and heavenly deities and is also described as the most important social and economic holiday in China.
