A Local Business Set To Close its Doors After Years in the Community

A local lunchtime favorite and Friday night hot spot is closing its doors after 30 years of business.

Tom's Texas Hots was established years ago out of a bus on Court Street. Since then the ownership and the location has changed a couple times but the food and the popular Friday night car show did not. The restaurant is now located on front street in Binghamton has been owned by TJ Shaffer for the past two years. He tells us that his restaurant which serves food ranging from hot dogs to steaks has faced some struggles, but says he'sthankful for all of his loyal customers.

"With current economic situations and this lovely construction we have going on here on the highway, it's put quite a damper on us and it's no longer financially feasible to keep going. It gets kind of frustrating but most of my employees are family and it's just been kind of a fun run while we were here and I met a lot of fun people for customers and had a good time with it," said Owner and Chef TJ Shaffer.

To say goodbye to their customers, Shafer says they will be holding a customer appreciation day on Saturday from 11-2 with free cake and coffee as well as one dollar hot dogs.
