Broome County Executive Vetoes Pay Raises

Broome County Executive Debbie Preston has vetoed a law that would link pay raises to some county officials and non-union employees to those called for in union contracts.

Preston says the executive's role in supervising the negotiations and the legislature's role in approving collective bargaining agreements which raises could be linked to raises the appearance of impropriety. Legislative Minority Leader Jason Garnar has raised the issue of a conflict of interest when opposing this law. Preston says she expects to revisit the issue in the coming months.
