Broome County Celebrates Catholic School's Week

Posted:
Four Broome County schools are celebrating Catholic Schools week..

Sunday, Seton Catholic Central kicked-off the week's festivities with a chorus performance at Oakdale Mall. Crowds of shoppers stopped to listen in on the sounds of Catholic hymns..including a few songs in different languages and one soloist. Students say it's a pleasure to be part of a team that makes people smile.

Jan DeAngelo, Music Teacher at Seton Catholic Central High School said, "It gives them the opportunity to be out here as catholic schools and show them what we've got. We are small but powerful."

Olena Czabala, 11th Grade Student at Seton said, "Being in a smaller school I get to know everybody and what everyone does and how they work with each other and it's really great."

Matthew Goodheart, 9th Grade Student at Seton said," "It's nice because you never really know who you're going to sing in front of and every once in a while someone will come up and say that was really nice and it means a lot because you work so hard at the music that you sing."

Seton Catholic High School's Select Chorus will travel to New Orleans in March to compete against other Catholic schools.

And for the rest of the week ...it's pretty busy for the Catholic school students in the area.

Mayor David will host a flag raising at City hall Tuesday, Seaton Catholic will hold a book fair, and there will be a couple of art shows in the area as well.
The United States celebrates Catholic Schools Week January 25 to January 31 recognizing the 7,000 Catholic schools in the nation educating more than two million students.
Broome county educates nearly 1,000 K-12 Catholic school students.
