Local Military Families Get A Christmas Thank You

Christmas is a time where families get together but some military families cannot always enjoy Christmas together. Their loved ones might be out, serving the county.

"The key piece to the soldiers family is that there is a base of support there for tough times, so when a soldier goes to do their job the families ok," said Major Dilmore.

Today some of these families got a chance to have a holiday experience they may not have been able to have before.

One-hundred and thirty-eight military families received decorated Christmas trees, wreaths and gift cards to add holiday trimmings to their homes.

BAE systems teamed up with United Way of Broome County to host their the trees for our heroes program.

It was something they felt, the military families deserved.

"We protect those who protect us and we also like to support those who support us, so supporting events like Trees for Our Heroes is a way for us to give back to those who have made sacrifices, both the war fighters, armed forces, as well as their families," said, Jeff Oakley of BAE Systems Business Development.

Major Johnathan Dilmore couldn't be more thankful for the support he and other military families have been receiving, especially during Christmas time.

"We try to keep a relationship with them and let them know we appreciate the support, so this is one of those times we let our community know as well as our families that we appreciate the support," said Major Dilmore.

"I think it's a wonderful thing to be able to get all of the military families together.
To see all the kids, not just the the kids but the soldiers together as one and it's very nice this stuff gets donated. People work so hard to help us out during the holidays, it's a great thing," said Morgan Northrop.

Families were also able to enjoy some refreshments along the way and take home a photo as a keepsake memory.
