Impact Project Makes a Difference

Posted:
Binghamton Resident Mary Jones takes pride in her home, but lately maintaining it has become hard for her to handle.

"I had hurt my back and my neck, my knees don't work I cant keep up with what a homeowner should be doing." - Mary Jones

So she petitioned the help of her local church, which organized a nonprofit organization. It was called Impact Project, the goal...to help restore her home, through landscaping and renovations.

"We've just been able to after 10 and 1/2 years been able to tap into a lot of businesses, a lot of churches and a lot of organizations that want to have the same purpose as we do, which is making the Binghamton area and central New York a better place to live. " - Jim Willard, Impact Project Director

The project recruits volunteers from the Liberty Partnership Program, bringing in students from the area to help give back to the community.

"yeah its fun its good to have the kids get involved, they really like doing it, we've done a lot of fun trips and stuff, but the thing that always stands out is when we do the community service aspect of things, it gets them out of the house for once, so its good." - Leah French, Liberty Partnership Coordinator
In addition, employees from Home Depot and Independent Contractors are also involved, which makes for at least very happy and thankful homeowner.

"I feel so blessed, I feel like I won a prize, its amazing, Jim is amazing, all the volunteer kids are amazing, its just wonderful."
