Harpursville Man Accused of Choking Girlfriend

A Harpursville man is in jail after State Police say he choked his girlfriend and physically prevented her from leaving a home on Route 79 in Harpursville.

Police say 42-year-old Steven Hoyt also grabbed her phone and kept her from calling 911. Hoyt is charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, Unlawful Imprisonment, Criminal Mischief and Harassment. Hoyt was sent to the Broome County Jail on $500.00 cash bail.

An order of protection was issued by the court against him.
