Arrests made in driveway robbery

A woman was robbed at gunpoint in the driveway of her Davidson County home Sunday afternoon. Her neighbor witnessed the event and was able to provide information that led to two arrests.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

Two people were arrested Sunday night after reportedly robbing a woman at gunpoint in the driveway of Davidson County home.

According to an affidavit, the victim had just returned from the store around 5 p.m. when she noticed a man walking up her driveway.

The man, later identified as Christopher Martin, stated he wanted to speak with the victim for a moment, and she told him to get off her property, according to the report.

At that point, Martin allegedly drew a semi-automatic pistol, pointed it at her and demanded her purse. The victim tossed her purse to him, which had her wallet inside with $20 in cash, her credit cards and driver's license. Martin, 22, took the bag and entered the passenger side of a vehicle which fled the scene.

The victim's neighbor witnessed the incident and was able to tell police a woman was driving the getaway vehicle, which he described as a black, late model Toyota Corolla. He was also able to provide a partial license plate number.

Later Sunday night, officers patrolling the area of James Cayce Homes on Seventh Street saw a 2005 Toyota Corolla with a plate number that matched the partial number the witness gave. The two people inside the vehicle also matched the suspect descriptions given by the victim and her neighbor.

Police made an investigative stop and spoke with the driver, Nakesha Brown. She informed officers she had a weapon in the vehicle, but didn't consent to let them search the car.

A K9 unit was called and conducted a free air sniff for narcotics and made a hit near the back door. Officers found the victim's wallet inside Brown's purse and a .32 caliber semi-automatic pistol under the driver's seat inside the vehicle.

Both Brown and Martin were taken into custody. During an interview, Brown, 21, reportedly admitted to driving Martin to the woman's home where he robbed the victim.

Metro: Water service to be fully restored Tuesday

Repairs are nearly complete on a water main that burst last week, knocking out water service to more than 15,000 residents across southwest Nashville.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

Service will be fully restored sometime on Tuesday to customers affected by last week's massive water main break.

The 30-inch water main burst Wednesday, cutting off service to more than 15,000 residents across southwest Nashville.

By the end of the week, service had been restored to most with the use of temporary pipes but pressure remained low in the area.

Until service is fully restored, customers are encouraged to conserve water. Using water for irrigation or to wash cars is prohibited.

As we pump water to an area, if someone irrigates or uses a large amount of water, it can cause their neighbors and those in a higher elevation to lose water service,” Sonia Harvat, a spokesperson for Metro Water Services, explained, adding, “That is why conservation is so important.”

Over the weekend, a Metro Water Services contractor removed the damaged pipe and installed connectors.

Harvat said water sampling would begin later on Monday. She anticipated service would be fully restored sometime on Tuesday.

Due to its high elevation, the Northumberland community off Harding Place and Hillsboro Pike was hardest hit with as many as 25 customers still without water Sunday.

Janet Vidnovic lives on nearby Beacon Drive and was also without water.

“I just moved here from Arizona with the biggest drought in history, and this is the first time I've been without water,” she told News 2.

Vidnovic also said her neighbors aren't conserving water.

“We have neighbors across the street who are watering and I think it's because they aren't aware their neighbors are without water,” she explained.

Metro Water said service would be cut off to anyone in the affected area caught watering their lawn.
