Man stopped from bringing gun into Dane County Courthouse

MADISON (WKOW) --- A 44-year-old man was stopped and questioned by Dane County Sheriff's Deputies Friday after attempting to bring a gun into the Dane County Courthouse.

The gun was in his backpack and found by a screener.

The Oregon man was arriving for traffic court with his two children when he voluntarily let his backpack go through the weapons screening.

During an interview with the man and a detective, he told them he knew it was wrong to bring the gun into the courthouse and had just forgotten it was in there.

The man does have a concealed and carry permit.

He was released and the Dane County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the incident.

Any type of weapon is strictly prohibited inside the Dane County Courthouse and weapon screeners carefully monitor everyone that enters the building, along with their belongings.
