While the world is still trying to recover from the horribleness of the Jabulani, the last thing Adidas needed was another ball embarrassment, especially on the heels of their Euro 2012 ball announcement.
But, when Daniel van Buyten took an innocent free kick during Bayern
Munich's 3-0 win over Cologne and the Torfabrik II ball was deflected by
a sliding defender, its insides popped out.
Suddenly looking like some kind of science project, everyone seemed a
bit confused by it. Arjen Robben carefully picked it up, gave it a look
and then booted it into the stands as the crowd cheered his treatment
of the faulty ball.
